On Monday, the Ministry of Economics (EM) proposed a number of amendments to the rules that would allow people to receive more services as the holiday season approaches. The government decided Tuesday that stores and service providers will be able to work until 23:00. Retail and services are currently working from 6:00 to 21:00.
“Longer working time to entertain people. (..) In these circumstances, in December, when people are more likely to want to go to stores, it's important that they could entertain themselves and [that we] allow [stores] to work on holidays, too,” Economics Minister Jānis Vitenbergs said.
Changes were also adopted in the number of persons allowed at the same table in catering establishments. Up to four adults and six children will be able to be present at one table, and that families and members of a single household will be able to sit right next to each other at events.
