Electricity prices in Latvia stable after record-high jump last week

Compared to January 4 and 5, when record-high electricity exchange prices were registered, electricity consumption has significantly stabilized in Finland this week and electricity production has increased, LETA was informed by the Ministry of Climate and Energy (KEM) January 10.

Electricity production, consumption, and electricity prices have stabilized in the Nordic region and the Baltic States.

Looking back to January 5, when a massive price hike was seen, the total electricity production in Latvia was higher than that consumed in the country. Latvia's import and export balance was positive in all hours of the day.

KEM representatives say 22,679 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity was consumed in Latvia on January 5. In turn, 29,185 MWh was produced.

Compared to January 5, Latvia's energy supply situation has not changed significantly in the second week of January - Latvia produces most of the electricity consumed, for example, on January 9, electricity was produced in the amount of 75% of the amount consumed in the country.

The average electricity exchange price in Latvia has slipped to EUR 109.02 per MWh from January 5, when it was EUR 670.83 per MWh.
