Booze to cost more starting March 1

Take note – story published 6 years ago

On March 1, 2018 the excise tax will be hiked in Latvia, says the State Revenue Service.

"This means that the excise tax for drinks with a high alcohol content will be equal to that in Lithuania, but it will still remain significantly lower than in Estonia," Latvia's tax authority said.

The service also ventured to estimate just how much the price of drink will increase:

  • 0.5 liters of 5% beer could cost €0.07 more
  • 0.75 liters of wine could cost €0.13 more
  • 0.5 liters of vodka could cost €0.53 more

Meanwhile the sale of alcohol in large plastic bottles is to cease by March 31, 2018.
