Electricity distribution tariff to be halved in Latvia

Take note – story published 2 years ago

To compensate for the sharp rise in electricity prices this winter season, the distribution tariff will temporarily be halved, coalition parties agreed on Monday, December 13.

The previously discussed reduction in value-added tax (VAT) was not supported.

Finance Minister Jānis Reirs (New Unity) said the tariff will be reduced temporarily – for the winter season. This option is chosen because it benefits both residents and entrepreneurs. The VAT reduction would not have a major impact on entrepreneurs. Reirs said out that it is important to think about Latvian entrepreneurs as inflation could increase without giving them support.

The scope of beneficiaries of housing aid is also expected to expand, and a concrete plan will be drawn up in the next two days to be proposed for consideration by the government next week.
