According to the stat.ee data, in 2017 a total of 1.3 million trips which involved at least one overnight stay were made by Estonian residents, close to half of which (606,000) were to neighbouring states.
Latvia topped the table, with Finland in second place, followed by Russia, Sweden and Lithuania.
This increase be connected to the fact that excise tax hikes in Estonia have prompted our neighbors up north -- including people from Finland -- to go to Latvia to buy booze.
According to estimates by alcohol vendors, roughly a third of Estonia's retail alcohol now makes the journey from south of the border.
An earlier report estimated that one in ten Estonians came to Latvia to buy booze in 2017.
