Latvian inflation 2.9% on year in September

The latest data of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) released October 9 show that during the year (in September 2017, compared to September 2016) the average level of consumer prices increased by 2.9 %. Prices of goods increased by 2.9 % and prices of services by 3.0 %

Compared to September 2016, in September 2017 the greatest pressure on the price changes was put by the rise in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, goods and services related to transport, prices in miscellaneous goods and services group, prices of goods and services related to housing, as well as prices of health care.

The average level of food and non-alcoholic beverage prices increased by 5.5 %. A rise was recorded in prices of milk and milk products, butter, cheese and curd, yoghurt, meat and meat products, vegetables and fresh fruit, eggs, bakery products, vegetable oil, and chocolate.

Prices of goods and services related to housing grew by 1.9 % while within the health care group, the average level of prices went up by 3.5 %, which was mainly influenced by the rise in prices of pharmaceutical products, dental services, and prices in medical specialist practice. Prices of goods and services related to transport increased by 3.2 %.

Compared to August 2017, in September 2017 the average level of consumer prices increased by 0.3 %. Prices of goods went up by 0.5 %, while prices of services fell by 0.4 %.
