100 new electric vehicles available for public use in Riga

Take note – story published 3 years ago

Around 700 electric cars are currently on Latvian roads, but now another 100 are joining them. These environmentally-friendly cars will be able to be booked by an app and driven daily, reported financial institution Altum on July 7.

The project was implemented through a loan from the national development financial institution Altum Green Programme.

So far, the first 100 electric cars will be available only in Riga.

The new Renault Zoe electric vehicles will represent a 10% increase for the existing electric car number across the country. The distance that can be covered with one charge of battery is approximately 300 kilometres.

If you want to drive an electric car, you'll need to download the app on your smartphone.

The normal price per minute will be 28 cents, but at the moment you can go half cheaper at a discount.

100 electric cars release 0.8 tonnes of carbon emissions in the environment during one year, from, for example, car manufacturing. Meanwhile, the environmental pollution of 100 conventional cars is 390 tonnes of CO2.
