Latvia's new passenger trains could be on the tracks in autumn

The Škoda Group has transported 12 new trains to Rīga for assembly and further work and plans to supply a total of 23 trains by the end of the year, and the remaining nine next year. The trains will be put into service in the autumn, according to a statement from Škoda group.

Initially, the commission of the trains was planned at the end of the summer. The Škoda Group acknowledged that the transfer of trains was delayed. The train certification process typically lasts from 12 to 18 months.

The tests carried out in Riga in April 2023 were successful, some tests will still take place at the end of June or early July.

Certification of the European Railway Agency will be applied for in the summer of 2023. As soon as this approval is received, the first trains will be immediately delivered to the Latvian “Passenger Train” to be put into service, the Škoda Group said.

The Škoda Group plans to continue train delivery for the remainder of 2023 and complete it in the first half of 2024.
