NATO meeting to cause traffic restrictions in Rīga

If you are planning to travel in central Rīga over the next few days, you should be aware of numerous traffic restrictions in place becase of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers taking place in the capital.

Rīga city council has a Latvian-language webpage  and a Russian version outlinging the times and places when restrictions will be in force, which are likely to cause some disruption to private and public transport alike. there will be parking bans in place on long stretches of road near the various venues being used for meetings and hospitality.

Until December 2 at 17:00 at the main conference venue building at 60 Krasta Street, as well as on driveways and bypasses, stopping and parking of vehicles is prohibited (except for emergency transport and vehicles with special passes issued by the State Security Service).

Stopping and parking of vehicles will also be prohibited on several other streets in central Rīga.

From November 28 at 22:00 to December 1 at 20.00 parking is prohibited on both sides of Aspazijas boulevard, in the section from Kaļķu Street to Teātra Street and in the section from Aspazijas Boulevard to Vaļņu Street, as well as in the local traffic lane of Krasta Street, in the direction and from Ogres Street to Grebenščikova Street.

From November 29 at 07.00 to December 1 at 20.00 traffic restrictions will apply on the side of Elizabetes Street, in the section from Baznīcas Street to Brīvības Boulevard, and on both sides of Baznīcas Street, in the section from Elizabetes Street to Dzirnavu Street, as well as on the side of Raina Boulevard, in the 30-meter section from Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street and the section from the building 4 Raina Boulevard to Reimersa Street.

There are also restrictions on both sides of Reimersa Street, on both sides of Jēkaba ​​Street, in the section from Torņa Street to Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street, in the parking lots near the buildings at Jēkaba ​​Street 20/2 and Torņa Street, as well as on the right side of Torņa Street, in the section from the building in Pils Square 2 to Noliktavas Street, and on both sides of Pils Square Street, in the section from Torņa Street to Mazaja Pils Street (also with Saeima Administration passes).

During this time, stopping and standing is also prohibited on the right side of Noliktavas Street, in the section from Torņa Street to Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street, and on the side of Elizabetes Street, in the section from Tērbatas Street to Krišjāņa Barona Street, as well as on the right side of Dzirnavu Street, in the section from Zaļās Street to Antonijas Street, and on the other side of Zaļās Street, in a 30-meter-long section from Dzirnavu Street in the direction of Melngalvju Street.

From November 29 at 07.00 to December 1 at 20.00, a ban will also be in place on the right side of Kungu Street, in the section from Svaru Street to Grēcinieku Street and on the right side of Grēcinieku Street, in the long section from Kungu Street to the embankment of 11 November, as well as on the right side of Brīvības Boulevard, in the section from Baumanis Square. Elizabetes Street.

From November 29 at 22:00 to 30 November at 17:00 the parking lot near the building at Ropažu Street 2 (VEF Culture Palace) will be closed.

From November 29 at 10 22:00 to December 1 at 20:00 stopping and parking is prohibited on the side of Kalpaka Boulevard, in the section from Reimersa Street to Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street, and on both sides of Kuģu Street, in the section from Trijādības Street to the building on Kuģu Street 15, on the side of Dzirnavu Street also in the section from Zaļās Street to Antonijas Street.

From November 28 at 22:00 to December 1 at 20:00, vehicular traffic (except for operational transport and vehicles with special passes) and access to vehicle properties in the local traffic safety zone of Krasta Street, section and direction from Ogres Street to Grebenščikova Street, and public transport and pedestrian traffic will be restricted.

From November 29 at 07.00 to November 30 at 17:00, the movement of pedestrians, cyclists and electric scooters in Liepu Alley, near the building at 36 Brīvības Boulevard, will be closed.
