'Responding to the infodemic' discussion

Take note – story published 3 years ago

Wednesday, December 2 sees Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs taking a leading part in a live online discussion under the auspices of the United Nations about COVID-19-related misinformation and disinformation.

Throughout the current pandemic, false claims and quack cures have undermined public health responses, threatened social cohesion and may even foment violence and conflict. False and misleading information costs lives and hinders global efforts to defeat COVID-19, according to the organizers.

The live discussion in English will share best practice approaches to combatting the so-called "Infodemic" and will include opening remarks by H.E. Mr Volkan Bozkir, President of the General Assembly, speakers sharing best practice from Latvia (Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs), Australia, Indonesia, India and France, and a Q&A interactive discussion moderated by H.E. Andrejs Pildegovics, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Latvia to the United Nations.

The discussion takes place Wednesday December 2 from 15.00 until 16.30 Rīga time (GMT +2)

As well as here on LSM, the discussion can be viewed on the Foreign Ministry websiteYoutube channelFacebook and Twitter.
