Latvian diplomats to compare notes at annual assembly

From January 22 to 26, the heads of Latvia’s diplomatic missions abroad and the Latvian Ambassadors residing in Riga will gather for their annual meeting in Riga to discuss the priorities and current tasks of the Foreign Service, according to a release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting will be opened by Minister of Foreign Affairs Krišjānis Kariņš and will also involve his immediate predecessor in the role, now-President Edgars Rinkēvičs, Saeima Speaker Daiga Mieriņa, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa and Chair of the Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee, Rihards Kols, plus other officials including NATO Assistant Secretary General for Defense Policy and Planning, Angus Lapsley from the United Kingdom.

The Ambassadors will also exchange views on EU-related matters with the Executive Vice President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, and the Secretary General of the European Commission, Ilze Juhansone.
