On June 16, the Saeima supported the appointment of Jautrīte Briede as a Constitutional Court (ST) justice.

82 members supported the appointment of Briede, three were against it. Briede will start work at the Constitutional Court on September 1.

The Constitutional Court is comprised of seven Justices, who are confirmed into office by the majority vote of the Saeima – with at least 51 votes.  There was a vacant spot among the Justices after Daiga Rezevska's term ended on May 23.

Briede holds a Ph.D. in Law from the Law Faculty of the University of Latvia. She is currently a senator from the Department of Administrative Affairs of the Supreme Court and a professor of law at the University of Latvia.

She is also rewarded with the Order of the Three Stars and a Grade II honorary badge of the Justice System.
