Diplomats head to Krynica forum discussions

The annual Economic Forum in Krynica-Zdrój, Poland, begins September 4, with the future path of Europe on the agenda.

Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs will take part representing Latvia alongside the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica. The theme of this year’s forum is   A Europe of Common Values or a Europe of Common Interests?, and discussions are to cover economic, social and political issues of current importance.

Rinkēvičs will speak in a plenary session entitled Europe – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, joining a debate on challenges that Europe is facing and the ways to tackle them. Other participants of the panel include Stanisław Karczewski, Speaker of the Polish Senate, Calin Popescu Tariceanu, Speaker of the Romanian Senate, and Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport.

Kalniņa-Lukaševica, will deliver remarks at two discussion panels: A New-Generation Security in Europe, and Patriotism 4.0 – A competitive Community of Regional Groups or Economic Selfishness?

The Foreign Minister is also to launch a Latvian Evening, arranged by the Embassy of Latvia in Poland together with the organisers of the forum. At the event, Latvia will be presented to the visitors as a country with a highly developed potential for transport connections and with a rich cultural heritage. An audio-visual and musical performance, “Rothko in Jazz”, by Māris Briežkalns’ jazz quintet will conclude the gathering.
