Security Service sees no issues with EP elections in Latvia

According to the State Security Service (VDD), the European Parliament (EP) elections in Latvia were held peacefully. The VDD has not detected any attempts to illegally influence the election results in Latvia, the service said in a statement June 10.

So far, the VDD has received a total of 39 so-called signals of possible irregularities in connection with the EP elections in Latvia. The VDD has not obtained any information on possible interference with the free choice of voters, including possible cases of vote buying.

As in the previous EP elections in 2019, the VDD identified mainly minor violations of the established electoral procedure in these elections. The VDD continues to examine individual cases.

The VDD has not initiated any criminal proceedings for possible illegal activities in connection with the EP elections in Latvia.

Similarly, the VDD has not identified any direct attempts by the aggressor state Russia or other countries to unlawfully interfere in the conduct of the European Parliament elections and influence their outcome in Latvia.

In monitoring the security of the EP elections, the VDD closely cooperated with the State Police, the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau, the Central Election Commission, and other institutions.

The SSS is grateful to the citizens who provided the VDD with information on possible irregularities during the EP elections.

The Service said that information on possible irregularities during the EP elections can be provided to the VDD by calling the 24-hour telephone number 67208964, writing to the e-mail address "[email protected]" or to the account on the website "X" @Valsts_drosiba.
