The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) has fined a few parties for violations during the European Parliament (EP) pre-election campaigning period, LETA news agency reported June 12.
On Tuesday, June 11, the government approved Latvia's candidate for the next European Commission (EC), reappointing the current Executive Director of the EC, Valdis Dombrovskis (New Unity).

In the 2024 European Parliament elections, 21% or 200 of the 945 polling stations in Latvia were inaccessible to people with mobility problems. Such polling stations not only make it difficult to cast a vote in elections but also prevent people with disabilities from working at the polling station, Latvian Television reported June 10.
On Monday, June 10, the coalition agreed conceptually to nominate Valdis Dombrovskis (New Unity) for the post of European Commissioner, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa (New Unity) announced after the coalition meeting. The government could decide on this on Tuesday.
