Bergmanis did not specify the possible steps of Russia's reaction, pointing out that Russia is unpredictable.
Bergmanis said that there are two proposals of what to do with the Moscow House, but did not specifically name either, because there is a possibility that these proposals will be withdrawn.
The Committee will begin viewing proposals for the second reading of the Moscow House Takeover Law on Tuesday.
At a meeting shortly before Christmas, the Saeima backed the urgency of a bill to take the so-called “Moscow House” into the ownership of the country. The National Security Committee of the Saeima has indicated that after February 24, 2022, when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, activities have taken place at the premises indicating support for Russia's aggressive policy. Therefore, Latvia must take action against the existence of a support location for such activities in the center of the capital city. The Saeima approved this draft law at the first reading and it is about to be adopted at the final reading.
The “Moscow House” was unveiled in the capital of Latvia at the end of May 2004. The information provided by the State Security Service shows that the so-called Moscow House has been used as a support point for various Russian-implemented anti-Latvian measures.
