After the meeting, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš stated that support for Ukraine is an integral issue on the EU's agenda, and emphasized that there is an unwavering determination at the EU level to continue providing support to Ukraine, which is heroically fighting against Russian aggression.
For 🇪🇺 long-term competitiveness, we need a well functioning single market, level playing field, skilled workers, research & innovation, trade and access to capital - and a joint approach to economic security.

According to the Prime Minister it is essential that the common European economic and energy policy is reviewed with the aim of making the EU economy less vulnerable in the future. It should become more independent of third-country suppliers of critical raw materials by diversifying supply chains and increasing their security, as well as developing production capacity, he suggested.
"A strong European single market is extremely important to us – it is also one of the cornerstones of our country's economic development... it is essential, when reviewing the current economic and energy policy of the European Union, to maintain equal opportunities between all member states, preventing competition for state support between the economies of EU member states of different sizes," the Prime Minister said.
