Foreign Minister has his two cents' worth on refugees

Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics on Tuesday repeated the already-established consensus on tackling Europe's refugee crisis while speaking at the European Union's general affairs council in Luxembourg.

Rinkevics said the EU should work with other countries, strengthen its borders and "be made more effective by means of EU institutions actively engaging in a dialogue with third countries to achieve that they meet their obligations on return and readmission of their citizens."

In other words, tell countries they have to take their citizens back eventually.

Later in the day the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it noted "improvements in the election process" in Belarus after autocratic President Aleksandr Lukasheno was returned for fifth consecutive term.

The "improved" election saw Lukashenko increase his claimed share of the vote from a mere 79% in 2010 to 83% this time around.
