"Latvia welcomes the final resolution of the cancellation of the Mistral deal," Rinkevics told LSM.
"We appreciate that France both honors agreements and at the same time demonstrates solidarity and unity with the rest of Europe, as well as politics of the European Union and NATO.
"Ever since the deal was introduced we have been firm that this is counter to the vital interests of European security and defense. While Russia has not made any significant steps towards resolving the situation in Ukraine and rebuilding trust on European continent, there are no grounds for lifting any of the measures adopted vis-à-vis Russia."
As previously reported, the €1.2bn deal for two Mistral-class attack ships has been torn up with Russia receivig a refund from France.
I welcome the resolution of #Mistral deal, not an easy decision for France, shows solidarity, unity and consistency of #EU and #NATO policy
