Kariņš said that in most municipalities refugee accommodation is going smoothly enough but there are individual cases where there are problems. Kariņš expects refugees to be housed proportionally to the population of Latvian municipalities, which has been planned in the past but not done. The Ministry of Interior needs to coordinate to make this happen, said PM.
The Prime Minister believes that so far there have been difficulties in understanding that refugees will be a long-term problem. “It is necessary to move from 'extinguishing the fire' to a long-term solution,” said Kariņš.
According to him, the inclusion of Ukrainian civilians in society should be encouraged. For people who cannot work, the municipality should develop facilities where people can stay for longer.
As reported earlier, the main issue for Ukrainian refugees is finding residence in Latvia.
