Covid-related restrictions could be softened from next week in schools. In the rest of the society, the loosening of restrictions is expected in March, Latvian Television reported February 7.

The peak of Omicron morbidity has not yet passed, but it is not far. The incidence is then expected to gradually decrease and the strict safety rules to be softened. The first would be schools.

"In schools virtually all the people who could get sick with Omicron, they'll have had that risk already. It's going to be behind. With which one thing that could potentially be done from next week, we could only send those with positive tests in self-isolation," said Health Minister Daniels Pavļuts.

Significant relief for the broader public could be expected in March. The details will still be discussed. The Minister for Health also predicted that the wave of Omicron could be overcome in the coming months - by May. Until then, there are no plans to abolish Covid certificates.

“In our view, it is necessary to continue the certificate system where there is epidemiological significance and where it protects people. We will in any case insist that the certificate system should not be automatically revoked. We can discuss the details in which environments, to what extent. After the wave of the Omicron, it would certainly be possible to decide otherwise,” Pavluts said.

A vote in the government could be expected next week to allow entrepreneurs and residents to prepare for the expected change.
