Latvian State President Egils Levits is in Scotland November 1, joining other world leaders at the COP26 environmental conference.

In his address, which will take place Tuesday at the World Summit in Glasgow, the President will call on the Member States to plan and implement measures to implement the obligations under the Paris Agreement in a timely manner, according to the presidential chancellery. President Levits will emphasize the scientifically based need for even more ambitious climate goals and call on leaders to move from words to deeds at global, national and individual levels.

The 26th session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) is taking place in Glasgow, Scotland, from 31 October to 12 November. COP26 brings together 197 parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), including the European Union (EU) and all EU Member States. The conference is hosted by the United Kingdom, in partnership with the Italian Presidency of COP26. COP26 was originally scheduled for 2020, but was postponed by one year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Levits has recovered from a Covid infection picked up during his previous overseas visit to Sweden in October and was pictured maskless at a COP26 photo opportunity with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
