Representatives of the parties For Stability! and Latvia First arrived at the Saeima sitting on Thursday in hoodies and t-shirts with the words "Dissolve the Saeima!".
In a press conference following the Saeima meeting, the leaders of the two parties informed – they are preparing to collect 155 thousand signatures from the population in order to achieve the dissolution of the Saeima. However, they will only be collected from November, as the law states that the dissolution of the Saeima cannot be started before it has worked for at least one year. Therefore, even before that, the two parties will hold a protest at Riga Castle, forcing the President to encourage the dissolution of parliament more quickly.
Šlesers said: “We will bring so many people to the streets that [Edgars] Rinkēvičs will have to encourage the dissolution of the Saeima!”
Both failed to mention the reason why the parliament should be dissolved.
Both parties have previously held a joint protest and have supported each other in several votes in the Saeima. Now their cooperation is openly called a bloc.
Rosļikovs said: “There is an absolutely new bloc of parties in Latvia and the Latvian parliament – an out-of-power bloc. Very powerful."
Party leaders don't rule out the possibility that a single association or listing could also be formed in the next election. However, Latvia First ally party Honor to Serve Rīga, is not exactly satisfied with this. Member of the LPV, former Rīga mayor Oļegs Burovs, said that LPV's association with For Stability! was not acceptable to him.
“I look at LPV's cooperation with the For Stability! party warily. I don't think it's a correct rapprochement and it can have no perspective, it's not right. I do not think that the Latvian public has a demand for the creation and revival of a new “PCTV” [Par cilvēka tiesībām vienotā Latvijā – former name of the Latvian Russian Union]. I absolutely agree with Ainārs Šlesers' words that the people should be united, but the cooperation of a certain degree with such radical forces does not lead to the people being united.”
