Butāns was Saeima's most talkative member this season

In its fall session from September 4 to December 22, Latvia's parliament, the Saeima adopted 116 laws in the final reading  including 12 new laws and 104 amendments to existing laws.

During this time, deputies met for 22 meetings, including six extraordinary and one ceremonial meeting.

In the autumn session, 141 draft laws were submitted to commissions for consideration, of which 93 were submitted by the Cabinet of Ministers, five by the President, 17 by Saeima deputies, and 26 draft laws were submitted by Saeima commissions.

Working with the submitted bills and viewing them in the second and third reading, a total of 1,125 proposals were evaluated in the Saeima – several hundred of them linked to the passing of the 2024 budget.

As to which deputies were the most frequent visitors to the speaker's podium, the laurels of victory this session go to Artūrs Butāns of the National Alliance, who left his seat and joined the debate 93 times. His nearest rival was Ainārs Šlesers (71 times, Latvia First party), followed by Jānis Vitenbergs (54 times, National Alliance), Jānis Dombrava (52 times, National Alliance) and Viktorija Pleškāne (49 times, Stability!).

Though Butāns was comfortably in first place this season, he still has some way to go to reach the levels of loquaciousness achieved by Aldis Gobzems four years ago, who managed an astonishing 163 speeches.

The 2024 winter session of the Saeima will begin on January 8.
