Group of 11 detained for drug dealing in Latvia

The State Police (VP) have carried out large-scale arrests and searches on suspicion of drug trafficking on the Telegram communication platform. More than 7 kilograms of various narcotic substances were seized and 11 persons were detained, VP said October 23.

The VP had information that an organized group was involved in drug trafficking on Telegram channels. On September 30, nine persons were detained by the police, and on October 14, two more persons were detained. Several of the suspects have previous convictions for drug trafficking offenses.

Information obtained during the investigation indicates that the suspects include the organizer of the crime, drug suppliers, stash-holders, and recipients of money. These persons were born between 1989 and 2000.

Officers carried out more than 12 searches at the addresses and cars belonging to the suspects. In total, 1.595 kilograms of cocaine, 3.1 kilograms of marijuana, 1.350 kilograms of MDMA crystals, approximately 560 grams of amphetamine, 400 grams of hashish, 1,325 MDMA tablets, and 120 LSD stamps were seized from the persons.

Also seized was €18,160 in cash, most likely obtained by criminal means.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated. Eight suspects are remanded in custody, while the others are subject to non-custodial measures.
