Latvian blogger accused of pro-Kremlin activity

On February 3, the State Security Service (VDD) completed an investigation against a pro-Kremlin blogger and brought a criminal case against him on the justification and glorification of crimes committed by the Russian armed forces in Ukraine, as well as efforts to create hatred and alienation between people of different nationalities, VDD said February 7.

The VDD has now transferred the case to the Prosecutor's Office.

The VDD proceedings were initiated on March 16, 2022, in connection with the content created and published by the person on YouTube and Telegram.

The information obtained from the investigation shows that the suspect regularly produced and made available to unlimited audiences videos and publications of the Russian war against Ukraine, interpreting events in line with the Kremlin's interests.

In his publications, the blogger assessed the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian armed forces as correct and necessary, and praised the power of the Russian armed forces, the chosen military tactics and achievements.

VDD has also identified the denigration of Latvians and Ukrainians, which is aimed at provoking hatred and intolerance against these nations.

The State Security Service did not reveal the identity of the blogger, but LTV reported last March that the detained person could be Kirils Fjodors, a 30-year-old Rīga resident, a Latvian citizen who speaks about weapons, military history, and also Russia's actions in Ukraine.
