Prosecutor Viorika Jirgena argued in court that Rimšēvičs had tried to influence witnesses in his ongoing case and that the security measures applied so far had not been observed by the defendant.
The former president of the Bank of Latvia, who maintains his innocence on all charges, denied he had communicated directly or indirectly with witnesses.
"I am deeply disappointed with such a false statement by the prosecutor," Rimšēvičs said.
The court will announce its decision on the request filed by the prosecutor on February 7.
In February 2018, the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) detained Rimšēvičs and businessman Māris Martinsons. The Prosecutor General's Office charged Rimšēvičs with soliciting bribes and money laundering and Martinsons is accused of aiding him. Both men say they are innocent.
