The Tax and Customs Police Board of the State Revenue Service (VID) opened criminal proceedings in May this year regarding untaxed cash payments in a construction industry company, VID informed the media in a statement on June 25.

The VID Tax and Customs Police Office in Riga and Jelgava carried out 10 searches at the premises of the company involved in criminal proceedings, construction sites and residences.

During the search, more than €15,000 of cash was found, as well as other items of interest for criminal proceedings, which will be analysed in the course of the ongoing pre-trial investigation.

It has been clarified that the company has not shown salaries in the accounting records from 2019 until now and has informally paid the unaccounted salary to approximately 30 employees in cash, the SRS informed.

The extent of the loss caused to the State due to unpaid taxes will be ascertained during the investigation.

Three persons have been identified as suspects and have been attributed a non-custodial security measure.

In the interest of the investigation, no further information is provided at this time.

The State Revenue Service points out that fighting untaxed wages, the so-called “envelope wages”, is one of the priorities of this year and recalls that reporting tax irregularities can be done by anyone writing to [email protected].
