For the time being, Krapsis' deputy Lauris Arājs has been appointed to carry out his duties pending further decisions.
In June of last year, the Internal Security Bureau (IDB) announced the initiation of criminal proceedings for alleged fraud in two procurements by the State Police related to the purchase of police uniforms.
The statement by VP says that police and Krapsis are cooperating with both the Internal Security Bureau and the Prosecutor's Office, providing the necessary information to complete this investigation more quickly. “We trust the investigation carried out by the Internal Security Bureau, and look forward to a fair settlement of criminal relations,” Chief of State Police Armands Ruks said in a statement to the media.
“We are disappointed about this situation and the suspicion expressed by the Internal Security Bureau is undeniably casting a shadow on the reputation of both the State Police and the official,” Ruks said.
He also valued Krapsis' work in the police as positive: “He has provided significant support and investment in modernizing police, organizing and improving work, particularly in terms of monitoring Covid-19 restrictions and maintaining public order and security. Carried out his work responsibly, showed initiative."
The police chief also said that Krapsis is presumed innocent until proven otherwise, so Ruks is currently abstaining from hasty conclusions.
