Two US soldiers fined for urinating at Freedom Monument

The Riga Municipal Police last week fined two U.S. soldiers €400 each for relieving themselves at the Freedom Monument.

The Riga Municipal Police's representative Toms Sadovskis confirmed to the LETA newswire that the police's surveillance center spotted two persons urinating at the Freedom Monument Square shortly before 9 p.m. on March 8. They were immediately approached by the Riga Municipal Police patrols who determined that the two men were U.S. citizens, who were eventually fined €400 each.

The two men were not intoxicated, added Sadovskis.

Kaspars Galkins, head of the Defense Ministry's Military Public Relations Department, also told LETA that two U.S. soldiers who had attended a brief training session in Latvia were fined for violations ascertained by the Riga Municipal Police.

The two unnamed soldiers will also face sanctions in the U.S. Army, which will probably be much harsher than the €400 fines they have paid in Latvia, added Galkins.
