On Friday, July 23, the Minister for Education and Science Anita Mužniece (New Conservative Party) will speak online with the school principals represented on the board of the Latvian Association of Education Leaders about the upcoming autumn and vaccination against Covid-19.
Kalvāns said he was in support of a solution other than compulsory teacher vaccination. Some teachers are planning to leave school because of the requirement. It is not known yet how many, but these could be hundreds.
The draft law requiring a Covid-19 certificate in the field of education, according to Kalvāns, should only be enforced if a positive campaign of encouragement and information does not produce the expected result.
“I will call on the [Saeima] to hold the adoption of the draft law. It may be possible to find solutions in the Saeima to review the draft law, but not adopt it yet so that it will not enter into force; but it could become active at a time when it appears that the vaccination proportion is not increasing and the third wave is coming,” Kalvāns said.
