The cliffs are formed from the ancient Devon Sea sediments, dolomites, which include fossil residues and interesting mineral formations. During the nature census, dolomite cliffs have been mapped out as specially protected habitats of the European Union.
The name of the annual geolocation is granted with a view to drawing public attention to the special geological formations of Latvia and their problems, providing information about them, encouraging further exploration, restoration, cleaning and improvement of the site.
