Bogs, especially peat bogs, are among Latvia's unique and most appreciated natural landscapes, and Ķemeri National Park has a great number of nature trails leading through bogs.
This is the first time the public is invited to this part of the bog. The Green Bog is one of the largest bogs of the Ķemeri Park, which was used extensively for peat in the 1950s and 1960s. As a result, the territory was damaged, moss disappeared, and the bog dried up, causing flora and fauna to go extinct.
Between 2011 an 2019, restoration and deforestation was attempted, and the Green Bog is now looking much better.
Ķemeri National Park was founded in 1997. It covers an area of nearly 40 thousand hectares and is the third largest national park in Latvia.
