This decision was taken because the former PSKUS council has not carried out an in-depth evaluation of the risks related to the absorption of funding of the European Union (EU) Structural Funds in the amount of EUR 46 million.
Therefore, there is currently a risk of non-absorption of EU funding, amounting to around €46 million, effective December 31, 2023.
“Taking into account the situation with the intended essential role of the hospital A2 Building in the treatment process of patients, which is threatened with previous project management and risk management by the Council, as the representative of the holder of the capital shares of the hospital, I took the decision to revoke the Council and elect a new – temporary Council,” said Health Ministry representative Aiga Balode.
The previous Council of Stradins Hospital was chaired by the Reinis Ceplis and its members were Juris Lapše and Renalds Jurkevičus. The temporary council consists of Normunds Staņēvičs, Pēteris Stradiņš, and Iluta Riekstiņa.
Earlier, Health Minister Hosams Abu Meri stated that the hospital's A2 building construction is at a standstill and will likely not meet deadlines, which will then result in the loss of EU money.
The new section of the Stradins Hospital building is expected to house an emergency medical center, admissions rooms, operating theatres, surgical and neurosurgery profiles, a neurology unit and stroke unit, facial and jaw surgery, intensive care facilities, as well as a woman and child clinic along with the delivery unit.
