The highest daily total so far remains December 31, when 1,861 new infections were confirmed.
The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic now stands at 55,097.
Of 11,804 tests carried out in the last 24 hours, 8.7% were positive, almost exactly the same as the 8.8% rate the previous day.

26 more deaths were also confirmed. Of those, one victim was aged 35-40 years, one was aged 55-60, five were aged 60-70, seven were aged 70-80, eleven were aged 80-90 and one was aged 95-100.
In total 961 people have now died in Latvia as a result of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
The National Health Service (NVD) said 1,087 people are currently being treated for coronavirus symptoms in Latvia's hospitals. Of that number, 82 are exhibiting serious symptoms.
1,780 people received the Covid-19 vaccine during the previous 24 hours, taking the total number so far to 14,962.

Use of nose and mouth coverings is compulsory in all public places indoors, including workplaces, and there are restrictions on what goods can be bought from stores. Physical distancing and frequent hand washing and sanitary cleaning habits are encouraged.
The current state of emegency runs until February 7 and the current "quiet period" restrictions regarding Covid-19 until January 25.
The number for medical emergencies is 113.
All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv. From January 15 arrivals will also need to show a negative Covid-19 test from a maximum 72 hours before arrival or proof of vaccination.
