Take note – story published 2 years ago

The State Council for Immunization recommends a booster shot against Covid-19 for people aged over 50 with chronic illnesses,  Accordingly, the National Health Service (NVD) is extending the availability of booster doses starting Thursday, November 4.

Until now, the State Council of Immunization recommended the third shot for people with suppressed immunity, people over 65 years of age, as well as for residents of social care centers and nursing homes, regardless of age. These groups are now joined by people over 50 years of age with chronic illnesses.

For the booster, it is recommended to use “Spikevax” developed by “Moderna”, while the second priority is “Comirnaty” produced by “Pfizer/BioNTech”. If the first and second doses were Pfizer, it is recommended to use it also for the third.

The booster is not mandatory and it will not be required to get a Covid certificate. Head of the immunization council Dace Zavadska said that while some countries are revoking vaccination certificates after a specified time has elapsed, Latvia is currently not planning to do so.
