The spread of Covid-19 is slowly increasing in Latvia according to information published by Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) July 26.

An average of 7,184 tests (the week before - 7,234 tests) were conducted per day and 46 new cases of Covid-19 were found on average daily last week (an average of 37 cases the week before).

In the last seven days, an average of four Covid-19 patients per day (a week before - 6) were hospitalized and an average of 53 people were treated daily in hospitals (previously - 67).

The highest incidence is still observed among people aged 20-29 years, especially in Rīga and vicinity.

The factor of reproduction of Covid-19 infection (R) increased to 1.14 (a week earlier – 1.0), indicating that the spread of Covid-19 in Latvia is currently increasing.

The average cumulative incidence rate of the European countries per 100 000 inhabitants has increased to 151.0 (previously - 89.6), while Latvia's rate has still decreased to 27.7 (36.1 a week ago) per 100 000 inhabitants.

The share of Covid-19 cases imported last week reached 27% in Latvia, with a total of 87 cases, 59 of which came from Russia.

A total of 260 cases of Covid-19 or 13.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants of Latvia were reported during week 28. Higher morbidity has been observed among unvaccinated people, with 18.6 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people. Significantly lower morbidity rates are recorded among people who have completed a full vaccination course or partly completed a vaccination course. In cases where vaccination has been started, 10.3 cases per 100 000 vaccinated persons have been recorded, while this figure is 3.5 for people who have completed the vaccination course, SPKC reported.
