A total of 417.2 cases of the flu per 100,000 inhabitants have been reported in the last week and 744.8 a week previously.

The highest incidence of influenza from January 9 to 15 was recorded in children aged 0 to 4 years.

The number of patients in ambulatory treatment facilities for acute upper respiratory tract infections has also decreased.

Since the beginning of the flu season, or beginning of October, 658 cases of influenza have been laboratory confirmed in Latvia and 2,247 clinically confirmed cases have been reported by family doctors. 37 deaths have been reported.

Last week 264 Covid-19 cases were laboratory confirmed in Latvia and 393 Covid-19 cases were reported a week earlier. The reduction in newly identified Covid -19 cases is explained by changes in the Covid-19 test algorithm.

Compared to the first week of the year, from January 9 to 15, the proportion of SARS-CoV-2 positive samples decreased by 1.3%.

A total of 101 reports of new Covid hospitalizations have been received in the last week, a week earlier 109 reports.

20 deaths of Covid-19 patients have been reported between January 9 and 15 and 14 the week before.

During the previous week, the number of cases of Covid-19 decreased in all regions of Latvia except Vidzeme. A reduction in morbidity has also been observed in all age groups.

In order to minimize the risk of serious illness and death, vaccination against seasonal influenza and Covid-19 is recommended for all, but especially recommended for people with severe onset of acute upper respiratory infections and high risk of complications.  Vaccination against influenza and Covid-19 may be administered at the same time.
