In the holiday season, the State Blood Donor Center (VADC) will go on more trips asking donors to give a life-saving gift, the VADC director Egita Pole told Latvian Television on December 5.

VADC will travel to 55 locations in December, as well as waiting for everyone at the permanent blood donation sites located in Rīga, Liepāja, Rēzekne, Ventspils, Jelgava, Valmiera and Daugavpils.

Donor blood is used both in regular patients, such as blood cancer patients, and in patients with chronic illness, but most particularly in cases of accidents, major injuries, transplants, and also in cases of labor problems, explained the Center's Director Pole.

“We're really looking forward to donors from all groups. The situation is very changeable. If we are talking about this, we should especially need 0 -, B -, A+ group donors. But everyone else is awaited,” Pole said.

“Longer festivities come with an increased likelihood of additional accidents, injuries, and household accidents, where more blood supplies are needed, so we specifically ensure that stocks are enough before the holidays,” said Pole.
