Latvia's Covid-19 morbidity declined by 36% last week

The incidence of Covid-19 in Latvia decreased by 36% last week compared to the previous week, according to information published June 21 by the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

On average, 111 new cases were detected in one day (174 a week earlier). The number of tests performed decreased by 11.2% last week, with an average daily of 8,126 tests, while 9,152 tests were conducted a week earlier on average.

An average of 20 patients per day were hospitalized over the past seven days (28 the week before), thus an average of 266 patients treated daily in hospitals (previously 331).

The reduction in morbidity continues in all age groups and all regions.

Covid-19 infection reproduction factor (R) is currently 0.72 (a week earlier at 0.78). This indicates a decrease in the spread of the disease.

The European countries have an average cumulative incidence rate of 72 (83 a week ago), with Latvia still much higher than the European Union. Overall, the situation is improving in Europe.
