'Long Covid' patients fill up GPs' practices in Latvia

The incidence rates of Covid-19 remain relatively high, and people infected with this disease take a much larger part of general practitioners' (GP) or family doctors' time than they did a short time ago, Latvian Radio reported on August 10.

Sarmīte Veide, head of the Latvian Association of Family Doctors, told LR that three weeks ago there was a rapidly growing incidence of Covid, and it was also felt in the practices of family doctors. Now the increase has subsided, but is still high. Working with the so-called “long Covid” patients is the most important part of the job at the moment.

“Most of us are currently working with Covid-stricken patients who have so-called “long Covid”, who have complaints after the Covid– long-term fatigue, inability to work. These patients should be checked out, understood what has happened. To be sent to specialists, if necessary, for investigations. And that requires time. The long Covid is on the rise,” Veide said.
