Most new cases of Covid-19 in Latvia last week stemmed from households

The number of infections in households in Covid-19 increased significantly last week, according to statistics compiled by the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) March 4.

Compared to the previous two weeks, the number of household-infected persons has increased significantly, but decreased in social care centers, workplaces and medical facilities, according to SPKC.

Last week, 57.2% of the infected persons became ill within their households.

SPKC epidemiologist  Jurijs Perevoščikovs said it could be the influence of the more contagious strain of the virus.

Meanwhile, the parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Health, Ilmārs Dūrītis said that this month the supply of vaccines is scheduled to be weekly and that vaccination rates will also rise.

Vaccination against Covid-19 for chronic disease patients is scheduled to start on March 22 and teacher vaccination in April.
