Second-dose jabs far exceeded first doses last week in Latvia

Last week, twice as many people received the second shot against Covid-19 as the first, LETA reported May 31.

In addition, a record number of people got the single-dose vaccine produced by Johnson & Johnson.

Last week a total of 102,725 persons were vaccinated against Covid-19 in Latvia, the third best result in one week. However, the number can still rise as data are being entered in the system.

32,136 people got the first jab against Covid-19, and the almost twice as many, or 63,530 people, got the second jab. This is by far a record of second-dose jabs in one week. 7,059 people were vaccinated with a J & J shot that needs only one dose.

So far 472,667 people have received the first dose in Latvia, while 255,001 people have completed the vaccination process. Overall, 727,668 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 have been administered in the country.

According to data from the Central Statistical Bureau, there were a provisional population of 1,887,600 in Latvia at the beginning of April 2021, thus 25.04% of the population have received the first jab against Covid-19, while 13.51% of the population have completed the vaccination process.
