The number of new Covid-19 cases confirmed in Latvia from October 4 to 10 grew by 40.5 percent against the week before. The number of hospitalizations kept growing as well, rising by 36.1 percent week-on-week, with severe patients accounting for 10.6 percent of all hospitalized Covid-19 patients.
Of the Covid-19 tests performed last week, 42 percent were performed as part of mass screenings in education institutions, and 58 percent were performed in the general population. Out of the positive tests, 13 percent were related to the mass screenings in education institutions and 87 percent of cases were detected in the general population.
Out of the people diagnosed with Covid-19 last week, 65 percent were symptomatic cases.
With an average of 16,176 Covid-19 tests performed a day last week, the average number of new cases rose to 1,376 a day.
Covid-19 incidence increased across all age groups last week, especially in 10 to 14 years old children.
Latvia's Covid-19 reproduction number (R) decreased to 1.28 from 1.38 the week before.
Unvaccinated or partly vaccinated people accounted for 7,518 new Covid-19 cases (78 percent) confirmed last week, while vaccinated people were diagnosed with Covid-19 in 2,115 cases (22 percent).
