Weekly Covid case count rose by 13% in Latvia

From July 4 to July 10, the number of newly identified cases of Covid-19 in a single week increased by 13.4%, from 3409 to 3867, the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC) reported on July 11.

On average, 552 cases were recorded a day. An average of 18 patients per day were admitted to the hospital.

The highest incidence rates are observed in the age group 70-79 years and registration of newly identified cases is continuing for socially active people aged 20-69 years.

The increase in Covid-19 cases is observed throughout Latvia, but remains particularly high in Rīga, Vidzeme and Rīga vicinity.

The average of the European Union and the European Economic Area is also increasing from the beginning of June, and in several European countries, the situation with Covid-19 is deteriorating, with Latvia's morbidity rates significantly below the EU average.
