As part of the survey, 1,009 Latvian residents were interviewed between December 2 and 11, 2023 .
42% of respondents believe that the quality of life in Latvia has not changed in 2023, compared to 2022.
10.4% of respondents say it has significantly improved, while 11.8% – that it has significantly deteriorated.
In socio-demographic terms, the assessment that the quality of life in Latvia improved in 2023 was slightly more often expressed by respondents whose spoken language in the family is Latvian – 13% of them estimate that the quality of life improved slightly, but 0.4% – that it improved significantly.
Meanwhile, among respondents whose spoken language in the family is Russian, only 7% believe the quality of life has improved slightly last year, while 1% – that it has improved significantly.
In total, 48% of respondents whose conversational language in the family is Russian rate that their quality of life has deteriorated slightly or significantly in 2023, compared to 2022.
Meanwhile, among those surveyed whose spoken language in the family is Latvian, 39% of those surveyed said that the quality of life in Latvia has deteriorated, while 44% expressed that it has not changed.
There are also marked differences in valuations at the regional level. In Vidzeme, 23% of respondents believe the quality of life in Latvia has improved in the previous year, and only 4% of respondents believe so in Latgale.
Overall, more than half of respondents residing in Latgale and Kurzeme have stated that quality of life has deteriorated in 2023 – Latgale's share of such respondents reaches 53%, while Kurzeme – 56%.
