Donate your bottle cap, buy drone for Ukraine

What can be simpler than unscrewing a plastic cap on a bottle and donating it to charity? Such an opportunity is offered by the society “Your Friends” (Tavi draugi), Latvian Television reported on December 15.

Donated caps are then handed over to the waste manager, receiving money in return. Once three million caps have been collected, a drone will be purchased for the funds raised, which will help Ukraine in its war with Russia.

Beāte Bēvalde, a spokeswoman for the Society Your Friends, said: "You can bring any caps bottles containing food - lemonades, waters, baby purees. They must certainly not be caps that are related to household chemicals or laundry detergents. Just what we use for food, any cap in any format in any color. Anything fits. Big, small ones. Those with sports tips too."

As plastic is a resource that is further sold by the waste manager, the funds raised from the caps will be donated to support Ukraine.

This is a very simple act that anyone can get involved in. The caps can be brought both to the society to Ventspils Street 50 and handed over in person, and sent by post.

Bēvalde noted: "In the days and times when we are not working, outside the entrance we have this kind of big red container where the caps can be thrown in. If you deposit bottles into reverse vending machines, no worries – the machine accepts bottles without caps. Remove the caps, put them in a pocket, take them home, put them in a bag, and take them to Ventspils Street 50," said Bēvalde.

3 million caps are needed to buy one drone.
