Some users were displeased, as they had been unwittingly become subscribers to a page belonging to a political power - Harmony, an opposition party which nevertheless holds the most seats (23) in the Latvian parliament.
Inga Spriņģe, the head of the Baltic Center for Investigative Journalism, Re:Baltica, commented the move thusly:
"It seems that FB have finally moved to deeds, not just pretty words."
The page had several thousand followers, and its closure may be viewed as a setback of a questionable element of Harmony's election campaign.
Many Facebook users complained about the page and posted warnings to their friends who had unwittingly become followers of a political page.
