Take note – story published 6 years ago

Four people lost their lives, and another four were injured in fires over the past 24 hours in Riga, the Fire and Rescue Service said January 17.

Deaths in fires have been increasing as the country is seeing cold weather.

On January 15 two people died in fires and another one on January 14.

"Seven people have died during the past few days. Some of the tragedies could have been prevented if people would follow fire safety standards, like abstaining from the use of damaged furnaces, and would have installed smoke detectors inside their homes. We invite everyone to take care about their own safety and that of their closest people," the Fire and Rescue Service said on Twitter.
