First migratory birds return Latvia

Bird watchers have noticed several spring migratory birds returning to Latvia in the past couple of days, according to information published on Latvijasputni.lv.

On February 8, in Nica Region (southwestern Latvia), two greater white-fronted geese were observed, as well as 12 Canadian geese.

On February 10 in Aizpute Region (southwestern Latvia), three tundra swan were observed.

On February 12 in Nica Region, 40-50 grey geese were observed.

On February 16, in Skrunda and Saldus regions (southwestern Latvia), several Eurasian skylarks were also observed.

According to bird watching experts, the migratory birds which have returned to Latvia are ones which spend the winter closer to Latvia.
